A Little Tact

A little later, at the château... Harpagon has taken off his Superfluous costume and goes to see Sophie in her room. Sophie is reading the “Carer Code”. Harpagon: “Sophie?” Sophie: “Yes?” Harpagon looks contrite and says, “Well, I would like to bury the hatchet… I apologize for my insensitive remarks, it won't happen again.” Sophie, accommodating, replies with a smile: “All right, it's fine. And I apologize I got carried away earlier and gave you a bit of a, errr…” Harpagon finishes for her: “Scolding?” Sophie: “Yes that's it.” Harpagon: “Come on, let's forget it all. I even brought you some pastries to make up for it.” Sophie replies: “That's so nice of you! What are these?” Harpagon takes out the cookies, saying: “Têtes-de-nè... Er...” Finally, he leaves the room, saying: “Nah, nothing, I'm going to buy something else.” Sophie rolls her eyes. Note: this untranslatable joke uses the fact that chocolate-coated marshmallow treats used to be called “têtes-de-nègres” (negro's head) in France, before this racist name was dropped for obvious reasons.
